Yuu Shop – Chiang Mai

My first day in Chiang Mai found me and G in taking our own route of the walking tour in inside the walled city – the Old Town of Chiang Mai. With the help of our Lonely Planet Thailand Guide and my own Nancy Chandler’s Map of Chiang Mai (a must have!) which G got me for my arrival present, we went on for a day of temple-seeing and discovering more of Chiang Mai Old Town. Detailed post on Chiang Mai to be posted soon.

So after a few hours of walking, a visit to a couple of small temples and What Phra Singh, we chanced upon this cute little shop further down Ratchadamnoen St. (central street inside Old Town Chiang Mai) and the note on the board outside it was effective enough for us to stop and follow what it said:

Yuu Shop, Chiang Mai Thailand

It is an artsy fartsy kinda shop which sells mostly tea, espresso-based drinks, and a few little things to munch on. The postcards on sale are the owner’s own photos printed on cardboard paper, which costs about BHT25 per (as opposed to BHT5-10 for the regular, common postcards you can buy from bookshops there) and the stamp costs BHT10 for local and BHT16 for international. You can just drop your postcard in their own little postbox, which is the main charmer of this shop. They also have other stuff for sale like tiny sculptures, paintings and traditional memorabilia that’s anything and everything Chiang Mai/Thailand. 🙂

Most tourists just pass by the shop as it may not be their idea of “culture and Chiang Mai”. But to those who are easily enticed by the promise of good tea (that’s G), the romance of sending a postcard (that’s me!) and a nice and comfortable rest from all those walking (that’s us), why wait, don’t hesitate and dine in if you happen to see this shop.

    • Oh, thank you. the place is worth dropping by, really. I wish they have these kinds of shops here in Singapore and even in my hometown. And not too expensive tea as well.,that would be a nice place to hang out.
